The Hits Wanganui is a radio station in Whanganui, New Zealand. It began as River City Radio, a New Zealand state-owned radio station, in October 1949. It was purchased by The Radio Network in 1996, and became part of New Zealand Media and Entertainment in 2014. Originally known as 2XA this station began broadcasting in Whanganui in October 1949 on 1200AM. The station was later renamed to 2ZW and moved to 1197 am in 1978. The station was renamed to River City Radio in 1988 and 89.6 River City FM in 1993 after the station began broadcasting on 89.6FM. In 2001 the station became Classic Hits River City FM after joining the Classic Hits network. In 2014, it became The Hits (spelt without an "h"). The current station is located on the corner of Guyton and Campbell Streets, Whanganui.
